Who we are

Proef LLC, trading as Proef & Company, operates getproef.com. Founded by Marieke van der Poel, we are based at 1179 Church Street, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States.

Proef LLC is responsible for the personal information processed for the purposes described below.

Information we collect and why

When you contact us, we receive your email address, message, attachments and any details you provide, such as your name, company and role. We use these to respond, discuss potential engagements and deliver our services.

Our website providers may process technical information—including IP addresses, browser and device details, page requests and timestamps—to operate and protect the site.

With your consent, analytics and marketing services may also process pages visited, interactions, referral and campaign information, approximate location and online identifiers.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless necessary and an appropriate method has been agreed.

Cookies and your choices

Our banner lets you accept all, decline all, or manage cookies by category:

  • Essential: website operation, security and remembering your choices.

  • Performance: website measurement through Google Analytics 4 and applicable Squarespace analytics.

  • Marketing: advertising measurement and audience creation through the LinkedIn Insight Tag.

Our Google Analytics and LinkedIn tags are configured to load only after you accept their respective categories. You can browse without accepting optional cookies.

Change or withdraw consent through Cookie Preferences at the bottom of the website. Withdrawal affects future processing, not processing already carried out with consent.

You can also delete or block cookies through your browser. Deleting cookies may remove saved preferences; blocking essential cookies may affect functionality.

Cookie lifetimes

Some cookies expire when your browsing session ends; others remain until their expiry date or deletion. Lifetimes may refresh following further visits.

Google documents default lifetimes of two years for ga and ga_* analytics cookies. These are separate from our Analytics data-retention setting.

Other cookie purposes and lifetimes are described in Squarespace’s website cookie information and LinkedIn’s cookie table. These provider lists cover multiple services; not every listed cookie is used on this website.

Browser privacy signals

Our custom tracking controls use your cookie-banner choices and do not automatically change those choices in response to browser Do Not Track signals. Use Cookie Preferences to control optional tracking.

When marketing cookies are accepted, providers such as LinkedIn may associate activity on this website with activity on other websites or their services.

Providers and recipients

We use:

  • Squarespace for website hosting, functionality, security and applicable analytics. See its Privacy Policy.

  • Google Analytics 4 to understand website use when performance cookies are accepted. Google states that it derives approximate location from EU, Swiss and UK visitors’ IP addresses, then discards those addresses before logging measurement data. See Google’s information about partner websites.

  • LinkedIn Insight Tag for advertising measurement and audiences when marketing cookies are accepted. LinkedIn may receive page URLs, referrers, IP addresses, device/browser details and timestamps, and associate visits with member accounts. See its Privacy Policy.

  • Google Tag Manager to manage website tags.

  • Google Workspace for business email. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Depending on the service, providers may process information on our behalf or for their own purposes under their policies.

We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Legal bases

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on consent for optional tracking; contractual necessity or steps towards a contract for relevant service requests; legitimate interests for ordinary correspondence and website security, subject to applicable rights; and legal obligations where required.

Retention

Enquiries that do not become client engagements are retained for up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact, then reviewed and deleted unless an ongoing business purpose or legal requirement justifies further retention.

Client records follow separate requirements based on the engagement, accounting obligations and applicable law.

Our Google Analytics user and event data-retention setting is 14 months, with reset on new activity enabled. This can extend retention of a returning visitor’s user identifier; it does not preserve every historical event indefinitely. Aggregate reports follow different retention rules.

Squarespace and LinkedIn retention varies by information and service, as explained in their policies. Cookie expiry does not necessarily delete information already collected.

International processing

Proef is based in the United States, and our providers operate internationally. Information may be processed outside your country, where privacy laws may differ.

Applicable provider terms describe international-transfer safeguards, including contractual clauses and Data Privacy Framework arrangements where relevant. Contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your data.

Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a portable copy of your information, restrict processing, object to certain uses, or opt out of applicable advertising-related processing.

Withdraw cookie consent through Cookie Preferences. For other requests, email info@getproef.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

You may also complain to the relevant privacy regulator.

Security, external links and updates

No internet transmission or storage system guarantees absolute security. External websites have their own privacy policies.

We may update this policy as our practices change. The date above identifies the latest version; additional notice will be provided where required.
